Diploma in Islamic Studies Programme



The Diploma in Islamic Studies Programme (DISP) is jointly offered by the Centre for Islamic Management Studies (CIMS) and the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). This one year programme is designed to give exposure to the Islamic world view, knowledge and perspectives to interested people from both public and private sectors. The programme was first introduced in 2000, with overwhelming response from the Muslim community in Singapore. 2002 saw the 3rd intake starting the course in the first quarter of the year. The DISP is offered in English and all classes are held at CIMS' premises in Singapore. All lecturers are from the IIUM. A diploma will be awarded by IIUM to all participants who have successfully completed the course. The Diploma is recognised by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia.

Frequency: Yearly intake 
Target commencement date:   13th October 2012
Duration: within 12 months
Training Days: alternate Saturday (  6.00 pm to 9.30pm ) & Sunday (  9.30am to 1.30pm )

1. Objectives:

  • To provide adequate knowledge in the religion, ethic, law, history, and culture of Islam
  • To show the relevance of Islamic concepts and principles to the daily lives of contemporary Muslims
  • To create awareness about the problems facing the world today and to contend for their solution according to Islam.

 2. Structure & Duration:

  • A 10-month postgraduate diploma programme involving 10 credit hours of course works,                   
  • Divided into 10 modules of 12 hours duration each.
  • Each module is further divided into 2 segments of 6 hrs each.
  • Classes are conducted in  Singapore on every alternate weekend.

  • Introduction to the study of the Quran
  • Introduction to Fiqh
  • Introduction to Islamic Civilization
  • Introduction to Islamic Worldview
  • Introduction to the study of the sunnah                                                                                            
  • Islamic Institution
  • Quranic view of other religions
  • Muslim community in Pluralistic Society
  • Lessons from Sirah & Islamic history

4. Admission Criteria

Applicants seeking entry into this programme must possess one of the following requirements:-

  • GCE O level certificate or its equivalent with at least 3 years of working experience. 

5. Evaluation method:

  • Attendance & Class Participation - 20%
  • Monthly assignments - 40%
  • Final evaluation - 40%
  • An 80% attendance in the classroom is required for eligibility to be awarded the diploma.

  • 3 non returnable passport sized photos (with red background for student matriculation card).
  • A Registration fee of $50 (non refundable)

8. University Details

International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) is a renowned university in the Islamic society worldwide. 9. Refund Policy

If notice of withdrawal is given in writing;

                    Two months or more before commencement date = full refund

                     Less than 2 weeks before commencement date = 40% refund

                     After commencement date = no refund   

*Note: Refund process will take about 2 mths to process and will be treated on a case-to-case basis.
